JNV Khumbong closed after extortion threats

Following threats from a militant group over an extortion demand, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong is closed down abruptly this morning with guardians taking away their wards studying in the school, School authorities requested them to do so.

JNV, Khumbong authorities received a demand letter from a militant group some days back, apparently demanding Rs. 10 lakhs from the school authorities.

The school has a total of 520 students together from standard V to XII, all staff members were reluctant to speak on the matter. someone told on the condition of anonymity that the demand letter had been received in the last week of December, but all negotiations to moderate the demand had failed.

adding insult to injury, the principal of the school was have taken leave since January 2.
