Many of us must have read Stephen Covey’s Habits book, now The Government Of India is aiming to train 15,000 Teachers in 20+ (NVS) Schools in Franklin Covey Co.'s 7 Habits Program.

Franklin Covey Co. is a NYSE listed company, the organization announced that 20+ Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools are being taken for piloting Franklin Covey’s flagship training, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

The teachers and students from this 20+ JNV Schools in India who are participating in the pilot program are from schools within 300 miles of New Delhi. Most of the schools has around 500 students, program would train 35 teachers and 35 staff members.

This relatively new curriculum is taught in both English and Hindi, nine of the 20 schools will participate first in The 7 Habits training with 20 teachers from each school being trained.

Student missing after fight on Mobile phone

One more case of student missing is reported in Navodaya, this time in Assam's JNV Lakhimpur.

A fourteen-year-old Abhijit, a class eighth student is missing from the school, this seems to be a specific issue as he was in a fight with his classmates a day before he went missing.

The school authorities have filed FIR and search operation is underway, students says that the fight was over a mobile phone.

Sinchana to lead JNV Chess Team

A student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Chikmagalur scored 9 points in 9 rounds, and secure first place in the National Jawahar Navodaya Chess Championship in under-14 girls category held at Chandigarh on September 17 and 18.

Sinchana will now proudly lead the Jawahar Navodaya team in the National School Games.

One more suicide in JNV

What could be an alarming level of stress and harassment from school authorities, Sahil Kumar, a Class IX student from JNV Lucknow committed suicide on Monday.

Sahil hanged himself in a classroom on Monday after he was reportedly harassed for leaving the boarding school without permission.

On Sunday, Sahil and five other went out of school without permission, when caught they were asked to write a note, saying they will never do such action again!
One such note was found from Sahi'ls possession.

Sahil's father had filed an FIR against 2 teachers and the Vice-Principal, it is believed that this trio's harassment drove the student to commit suicide.

Tortured JNV Students fled the school

31 students of Class 10 of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Kauni in Faridkot district decided to fled in the prime phase of their educational phase, in class 10.

Students alleged brutality and harassment by the school authorities, these students walked barefoot around 32 km to nearest railway station.

Student also complained of un-hygienic conditions back in school and provided poor quality of food. JNV authorities later arrived to take custody of the kids.

Total teachers to observe black day will exceed 1Lakh, counting only KV and Navodaya teachers. Teachers are demanding immediate implementation of Modified Assured Career Scheme (MACP) and up-gradation of pay and other allowances.

Students Flee JNV, Chinese delegation visit etc.

A couple of days back, 53 students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Gurdaspur did something that prompted authority and government to sit up and take notice.

The students fled the school and took shelter in a gurdwara, have now returned to the school. Though authorities feel that there was no such need of aggression, most of those who studied or seen the school will not say so.

School authorities are now claiming that the students were to blame for this dibacle, few officers at JNV's office in chandigarh says that this started as a result of a tussle between class XI and class X. A teacher intervened and said that he will call parents of the respective students, which scared the childrens, they got together and escaped.

When the local tehsildar and the DSP went to bring them back, the students first asked for an assurance that their parents will not be updated about this.

School is not working on a damage control, and recently started sending yoga and meditation experts to schools and have also tied up with an NGO named Sixth Sense.

Now, on a better note, a Chinese delegation visited Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Lakkidi in Wayanad district in Karnataka.

THey got a first-hand experience of the school projects, including one to conserve rare, endemic, and threatened species of plants in the Western Ghats.

JNV Wayanad is implementing the conservation project, in association with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, at Puthurvayal.

The delegates then interacted with the children and shared their ideas and experience on conserving the environment. The team members commended the children for their active involvement in conservation. This four-day visit was organised by OISCA International, is aimed at providing a chance to the delegates to see the activities to conserve the environment in primary schools in South India.

Sometimes, Vision of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya as a school for gifted and talented children is missed amidst bureaucracy and rules.

A poor but meritorious student was asked to pay Rs 9,600 when the student asked for his school leaving certificate (SLC).Chandrasekhar Sahu, recently completed XIIth and he is a son of a daily-wage earner in Orissa, The school authorities asked him to pay a fee of Rs 9,600 for "Navodaya Vikas Nidhi", a development fund for the school.

As the student could not pay the amount, authorities refused to release his SLC until the payment was made.Chandrasekhar has topped in the Plus II CBSE examination in the Orissa zone by securing 95% marks and now aspires to be a doctor, but his dreams cant get realised if a doesn't gets the SLC from JNV school.

Principal Das of JNV said that the Chandrasekhar has not paid the fees (monthly 200 Rs.) for four years, as a result of which he was asked to pay a sum of Rs 9,600, only BPL, SC or ST are exempted from paying these fees, Chandrasekhar belongs to other backward caste (OBC).Chandrasekhar, then approached district collector for help.

While school administration was adamant on demand and refused to waive off the fee, the district collector, Dey, promised to pay the fees.

Come July 10th and many aspiring talent will appear in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) entrance exam through out India.

The exams were delayed by almost 6 months, waiting for the conclusion of exemption from a Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education that prohibits screening tests for admission to schools.

Later this year JNVs, along with KVs and Sainik Schools were bought under a special category, and exempted from the mandate of the Act.

Bengaluru based Dakshana Foundation has announced results for its third batch of JNV Dakshana Scholars, the batch came through with flying colours achieved exceeds expectations results.

Out of 50 Dakshana Scholars in the batch, 37 qualified in the IIT-JEE merit list , an impressive 74% success rate, in earlier years the rate was mere 21-31%.

More navodians cracking IIT, Thanks to Bhabha Super 35

The various Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are breaking records and setting new benchmark in education each year, whats more promising is that these students, are from poor family and can acquire the platform which no other institute can provide.

Recent it was revealed that 24 students of Bhabha Super-35 (which functions like Bihar's Super 30) cracked the prestigious Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) out of a batch of 35, most of whom had studied at a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

Bhabha Super 35's students are taught the basics of maths, science and chemistry. This platform helps students crack the JEE.

In fact, few of the tutors in Bhabha Super 35 are JNV Alumni, these students attributed their success to the teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya again topped the chat, with impressive 96.89 per cent of them passing the CBSE 2011 12th exam.

The pass percentage of schools under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan stood at 93.38. The pass percentage of government schools stood at 83.98 and Government aided schools at 79.54. The pass percentage of private schools stood at 45.41 per cent.

This year, over 81 per cent students cleared the Class XII examinations and girls once again outshining the boys.

Girls pass percentage was 86.93 as compared to that of boys at 77.83 per cent.

Food Poisoning at JNV Borkhadi

Around 150 students were affected by food poisoning yesterday,
After yesterday's dinner many complaint of vomit and diarrhea , around eight students and a teacher were admitted to hospital, Vyara town health officials have rushed to school with staff and started treating all affected.

It is to note that like most of the navodaya's, JNV Borkhadi as cleaning issues, the school water tank has not been cleaned for a long time, all the waste is dumped just in front of the school, Vyara administrative officials are now working hard to get all this sorted.

JNV - Enterance Exams to Stay

Considering Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas as an exception, JNV are excluded from the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

HRD ministry got this positive confirmation few days back from the Law ministry. Law ministry also mentioned the schools as "a class apart" and a class sui generis, the stage is set to keep the Navodaya schools out of the ambit of the critical RTE clause.

Also 2,500 model schools are also likely to get the same exemption as 'special category' school like JNV.

Student burnt to death - JNV Madhepura

In a shocking incident, a 8th class student was burnt to death in JNV Madhepura.

Vijay Prakash, 8th class student was taken to hospital where he succumbed to burn injuries.

RTE - JNV Enterance Test - Notice Issued

RTE act mandates that there should be no screening or entrance exam for admissions in the exams.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), is said to be the first one to violate this rule.

CBSE has decided to introduce “Food Production” & "Food and Beverage Services” courses in selected schools from the academic session 2010-11.

25 Years of JNV - Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Van

This Summer 570 Navodaya schools across country will pay tribute to the person who started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

Each school will have a small green area called "Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Van" on their premises, this green will also have a statue installed within.

New Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Commissioner, IAS officer Manoj Singh aready dispatched letters to all schools.

This year also marks celebration of 25 Years of JNV , JNV Schools started in 1985-86. Students and staff memberare will plant the trees and no external labour will be employed. Also 35 new JNV will be started from August 20.

Second year in succession and Goa has topped CBSE Chennai region.

In Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Canacona, 42 appeared for the exam in the science stream of which 41 passed. The school toppers were Teja Velip and Kavita Nanshikar, both of whom scored 79%.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Valpoi recorded 100% results. Ramma from the school topped Goa in the arts stream scoring 85.6%.

Goa also recorded an 11-year-high pass percentage of 92.17.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Employees On Strike

In 23 year history of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, First time, Over 20,000 Employees across 576 JNV's have resorted to a nation-wide strike on Nov 16 (Monday).

Employees are protesting against the Central Government's reluctance in disbursing basic facilities offered by Central Govt. in other all other organizations. This time even the principals of the Navodaya Vidyalayas have joined in the strike.

Employees had started agitation on November 2, followed by a 6,000 employee strong peace full protest march near Parliament on November 9. As no response was heard from Govt, employees gathered under a banner of the Joint Action Committee of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi Employees Association and resort to a token strike.

Employees are making a point that Chathruvedi commission had recommended the government to implement pension scheme for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya / Kendriya Vidyalaya employees in 1998, but no action is taken on this recommendation.

JNV Teachers across the country are joining the black arm band protest.

All teaching and non-teaching staff of 586 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) across India will work with a black arm bands starting Nov 2 till Nov 7.

Jagdish Rai, president of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Employees Association, said in a press statement that even though the teaching and non-teaching staff are central government employees but they are not benefitted with facilities provided to other central government employees.

The demands for pension after retirement and and eligibility to get 10 percent special allowance announced in the Sixth Pay Commission are few of the demands of the Staff.

A protest march will be held at the Delhi Jantar Mantar on Nov 9, and on Nov 16, all staff of JNV will go on country wide strike for one day.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Chara (Hebri) witnessed a tragic incident on tuesday, a seventh standard student committed suicide.

Like all other students, Udit Shetty (13) came from Kannada medium student and found the English medium syllabus in Navodaya quite tough. When he asked his parents to stay back at home after the Dussera holidays, his parents suggested him to complete the education and was sent to JNV on Sunday.

Father of the child has asked the principal for probe. Principal K V Suresh has already lodged a police complaint.

JNV Entrance Exam : Additional training for Punjab Primary School Toppers

Punjab Primary School toppers will have reason to cheer, Punjab Govt. is working on a plan to provide additional training to primary school toppers for Navodaya Vidyalaya Enterence Exam. All toppers in primary classes (1 - 5) will be given special training by education department under "Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan" so that they can score in Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance exam. NCC NIC CAMP Hosted by JNV Gaalibeedu

Four Navodians died in UP, when a cab collided with a truck in Gorakhpur.

The accident took place in Sunday morning near Gorakhpur. Twelve students of class 10th of Navodaya Vidyalaya Gorakhpur were returning from an academic tour. Local villagers tried to rescue the students, but when they could not help, they called police.

The cab-driver also died in the accident. The truck driver and cleaner escaped.

JNV, Kasargod issued this statement on behalf of the committee and stated that employees of JNV and NVS were inducted initially during the period of inception in 1986 to 1989 on deputation and from 1989 onwards 50% of the employees continued to be on deputation. Strangely those who joined JNV before 2004 are not a part of Govt's GPF - Pension scheme.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has again topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) performed better than other schools across India with a whopping 94 percent JNV students passing the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams.

Results of CBSE XIIth shows girls outshine boys in overall pass ratio, the overall pass percentage for the boys is 77.56 per cent, the girls are way ahead at 86.24 per cent.

The overall pass percentage in JNV is 81.20 per cent, down from 83.57 per cent in 2007, but up from last year's 80.80 per cent.

Ashok Kumar, Son of Hockey Wizard Dhyanchand got overwhelming response at 1972 Munich Olympic, he said an old man in stretcher came to visit him and said "I am a big fan of your father. I saw him play in Berlin in 1936 and when I heard that his son has come here, I decided to meet you."

Deepak Tamang has bagged a scholarship in the National Talent Search Examination conducted by the National Council of Educational Research Training (NCERT).

A N Ramachandra Rao, deputy commissioner NVS announced the news on wednesday.

Rao explained how schools will be benefited when all schools are involved in a common objective, teachers might not give individual assignments, unit test and can schedule discussions with other schools. This portal will be made accessible to all teachers across 565 schools.

Pension Scheme fro JNV Staff

On Thursday, Government decided to amend the Payment of Gratuity Act to Teachers.

In another decision, the Cabinet gave its nod for introduction of a new Pension Scheme to all regular employees of the Navodaya Vidyalayas. The new scheme would come into effect after the date of notification.

The JNV employees would have the option to go in for the new scheme or continue with the existing Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) scheme. In case the employee joins the new scheme, the accumulated amount in his or her CPF account would be transferred to pension fund under the new scheme.

The service of all new Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti employees will become pensionable.

In a press release, JNV Samiti announced that application forms are now available for the admission to Navaodaya schools for class 6th.

There are 575 navodaya schools in India, admission is based on the admission test conducted by CBSE.

Selection test will be conducted on February 8th, 2009.

Test will be of two hours with 100 objective type questions.

50 questions - Mental Ability
25 questions - Arithmetic test
25 questions - Language test.

Eligibility: Candidates studying in class 5th in the academic year 2008-09 can apply for the test.

In recent Central Board of Secondary Examinations (CBSE) Results of Class 10th and Class 12th, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Students have topped the chart and secured 96-97 % Pass Ratio, in class 10th results 40 per cent got distinctions (those who score above 75 per cent marks get distinction).

It is to be noted that most of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country have secured cent percent results (100% pass ratio), the reason for this is quality teaching and remedial classes, and most of the credit goes to the residential techers, who are always there to help students.

In the last five years, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas has always secured Top position for CBSE Class 10th Results.

CBSE Results - JNV Maithon Students Shines

A dairy farmer of Katras would have never throught that his son Rajguru Dikshit, a JNV Maithon (Dhanbad) Student can crack the CBSE exam with 94.6 per cent marks.

This board exam was first for the Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (Maithon), Rajguru topped the chart.

However his dream of becoming an IITian may remain unfulfilled because of poverty.

Rajguru scored 99 in both maths and social science, 93 in both English and Hindi, 89 in science and 87 in information technology.

Everyone knows the streangth of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and JNV Maithon is no exception, this year, when the first board examination was held, 36 students passed the CBSE exams. Students scored an average of 77.13 per cent in English. Of 36, 34 passed with a first division and five students got over 90 per cent.

Navodaya Topped CBSE 10th - 2008 Results

JNV's has Topped in 12th and 10th chart in CBSE 2008 Results

Prestigious Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) Topped CBSE 10 Class Chart with a pass percentage of 97.54 percent.

The central schools are second at 96.07 and the independent private schools have a pass percentage of 91.77 percent.

Mr. P.K.Sharma , the assistant commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (that runs JNVs) was happy man, as kids performed brilliant in 10th and 12th classes. he said that "The consistent effort of our teachers and regular review of students performance led to our success. Our schools are co-ed and residential schools. This helps us to keep a tab on every student and their performance".

CBSE Spokesman Ganguly said 97.54 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas registered 96.07 Percent, government schools has 75.31 and government aided schools got 72.57.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Topped the CBSE 12 School Chart

Again it was proved on friday that the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) Students performed better than other schools across India , results of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examination were declared on Friday.

CBSE 12th Examination has overall pass percentage as 80.91.

CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly declared that the pass percentage of JNVs is a whopping 92.44 percent followed by 91 percent in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), Clearly JNV has topped the rank chart.

Ganguly also praised the continuous good quality teaching in JNVs said that it has helped them overtake KV and occupy number one position in the performance of school category in CBSE 12th Examination.

Just like every year, this year too Girls have outshine boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 results.

JNVites are proud as Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools had a pass percentage of over 91 percent, and Government and private schools attained a pass percentage of just over 80 percent.

As North India managed to get just over 75 percent, Chennai zone scored whooping 92 percent passs out ratio in the CBSE Class 12 examination. About 550,000 students had taken the exam in this zone, this zone includes Tamil Nadu, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

On the other side of the story, hundreds of nervous students and anxious parents are calling help lines and psychiatrists for counseling.

One such counseling service received almost 25 calls per day since last three days. A leading psychiatrist said parents should understand the pressure and should not engage children and students in percentage race.

CBSE 12 Results - JNV Shines again

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Has hold its second position just after Kendriya Vidyalaya in the CBSE Class 12th Results,

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya managed to grab percentage of 91.14 per cent against a pass percentage of 91.65 per cent for KV's.

The subject-wise pass percentage for boys is 77 per cent as against 85.98 per cent for girls.
As girls fared much better than boys, they also helped to push overall pass percentage to 80.80 per cent.

JNV Student won Award at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Shri Kapil Sibal felicitated Eight young scholars for their innovative projects, which won recognition for the country at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the largest science competition for pre-college students, held this year at Atlanta, USA.

Mr. Sibal announced yet another initiative called Regional Innovation Science Hubs for Inventors, RISHI, to promote scientific temper in the country.

Lavanya Giriraj of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mandya won the American Society for Horticultural Science Award of $500 for her project on Natural Color from Ixora Flowers.

Navodaites are known for their skills and active participation across the country, These Students are a major contributor of talent pool across the country.

however since the start of these schools, infrastructure has always been a problem, even in my navodaya time (1989-1993) we faced almost all infrastructure issues which a villager has to go through, blame it on the pilferage of the cash or the intentional mis-use of the grant from the government, student never got what govt wants them to have and what the students were dreaming.

In a recent news, almost 120 students of Farhanpur fled away from hostel after having a real bad food, worse behavior from authorities was the point of no return for them, these students of Class 10 scaled the wall of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Farhanpur and took refuge in a Gurdwara.

Children says they were angered at the qualify of food being served to them and also the behavior of the authority (including principal), when they protested about the food.

Motivational Program by Navodaya

Imphal initiated a 9 day long "Motivational Program" for navodaites,

This program was organized by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) and catalysed and supported by NCSTC, department of science and technology (DST), government of India, New Delhi.

Around 40 Navodaites were participating from 8 selected Navodaya.

The participants visited the seismic observatory at Canchipur and studied how an earthquake took place and how its intensity is measured at the seismological centre, they also visited laboratories of the Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) and interacted with the engineers there.

During the course of the program, the students had visited different laboratories (such as soil, horticulture, animal sciences, tissue culture labs) of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, students also visited prestigious "Remote Sensing and GIS of the Earth Sciences Department" of Manipur University.

They watched a A short film on tsunamis was to be aware of tsunamis in reality.

Following topics were discussed

Understanding the planet Earth
Medical sciences
Avian Influenza
Computer world
Loktak lake - a wetland of international importance
Food adulteration

A hands on project of title "Global communication through internet" was also carried out by students. The students team could launch web pages of their respective schools in such a short time of project work.

Navodaites favourite a science elocution competition on science topics was also arranged.

1st position went to Ch Chingkheinganba and K Norendro of The Antarctic English School, Yairipok. They spoke on the topic `Solar System`.
2nd position went to Puspa Chongtham and Sinorita Moirangthem of Brighter Academy, Imphal on the topic `Pollution`.
3rd position went to Longjam Tomthin and A Misban Hanif of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Yaralpat, Imphal East on the topic `Cloning`.

The best part of the programme was to gift a solar lamp and solar cooker to each student, this will bring encouragement and enthusiasm to all student participants and will also promote science and technology.

A class X Board student gave birth to a baby while writing a paper at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya examination center in this district headquarter town of Sheikhpura (Bihar), 18-year-old Sushmita Kumari delivered the baby when she was writing the Hindi paper.

Both mother and her baby were soon taken to the nearby Hospital, Condition of mother and child is good.

Punjab judicery is worried over negligible use of the official language in workplace, this lead them to pass a resolution asking the local government to make Punjabi language mandatory in offices.

Not only this, Punjabi will now be compulsory up to class X in all schools in the state, yes in Navodaya and other CBSE as well.

All state education schools and also those affiliated to CBSE or ICSE, including Navodaya and KV's will have to strict to this law.

JNV - George Fernandes joined protesting teachers

Former defense Minister and political veteran George Fernandes pressed that members of All India Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association (AINVSA) should
get their pension and gratuity.

Mr. Fernandes said that these teachers are from all parts of the country, and they have been deprived of their rights.

Association has blamed the Central Government for not providing them with basic facilities like pension and gratuity.

NVS Tie up with IIM LUCKNOW

The prestigious Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is pushing limits and moving out of traditional school-room education, in a recent tie-up with Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, the senior administrators of the school will be trained by IIM Lucknow faculties, this involves training in career counsellings, change management, team building etc.

A.N. Ramachandra, deputy commissioner of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) said that "The aim is to make our students grow as complete and successful individuals, Leadership, team building, human capital management are some of the things we learn at IIM Lucknow". Ramachandra himself had undergone a similar training program at IIM Kolkata.

Currently There are 565 schools under the NVS umbrella in India, and NVS is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the minister as its chairman.

JNV Khumbong closed after extortion threats

Following threats from a militant group over an extortion demand, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong is closed down abruptly this morning with guardians taking away their wards studying in the school, School authorities requested them to do so.

JNV, Khumbong authorities received a demand letter from a militant group some days back, apparently demanding Rs. 10 lakhs from the school authorities.

The school has a total of 520 students together from standard V to XII, all staff members were reluctant to speak on the matter. someone told on the condition of anonymity that the demand letter had been received in the last week of December, but all negotiations to moderate the demand had failed.

adding insult to injury, the principal of the school was have taken leave since January 2.
